ARGENTINA SUCCECEEDED BY STANDARD SITUATIONS

The order of goals clearly shows that Argentina has won this match due to better utilization of their scoring chances, especially after standard situations. India on the other side just wasn’t able to convert enough of their many opportunities.

The better start was for India, with scoring the lead already in the 3rd minute when a fine combination found its way to Arjun Halappa, who scored. India kept making the game and subsequently had a number of good scoring chances. Not a single one of these was converted though, and Argentinean keeper Juan Manuel Vivaldi made some fine saves. The 1:0 half-time result for India was lucky for Argentina.

The South Americans started the second half with more pressure and in the 40th minute it was Matias Damian Vila who scored the equalizer by converting a penalty corner. The match was now open until the 51st minute, when another short corner led to the Argentinean lead, scored by Matias Enrique Paredes. The lead only three minutes was equalized by India again, when another fine combination gave the ball to Shivendra Singh. Again India afterwards had a number of good scoring chances, but did not convert any of these. Argentinean coach Sergio Vigil hoped for standards, and in the 63rd minute it was another penalty corner that was converted by Matias Damian Vila into the Argentinean lead.

India now put up heavy on Argentine, but was not able to score, and so the Argentineans will be meeting Japan in the battle for ninth place. Despite displaying good combinations India once more was not able to convert its many chances into something countable, and so will play South Africa for rank eleven.
